Letter, August 2, 1940, from Mel Allen to Bob Mantler. Allen is thanking Mantler for correcting an error he had made concerning the years in which the Giants won the National League pennant. The letter is one typewritten page on Columbia Broadcasting System letterhead. It is signed by Mr. Allen.

Mel Allen began broadcasting for CBS in 1937, and covered New York Yankees' games from 1940 until 1964, where he worked with Red Barber and Dizzy Dean. He covered numerous World Series and All Star games in the 1950s and 1960s. From 1977, he worked on the television show, This week in baseball, and began doing New York Yankees games on cable in 1985. He won the Ford C. Frick Award for excellence in broadcasting in 1978.
